HOMEWORK GUIDELINES
1. Who is responsible for homework?
Students must record their homework assignments in their assignment notebooks and complete the work on their own. Homework is to be an independent activity unless work is assigned to be done with other students or as a group project. Any parent whose child is unable to complete the assignment independently should attach a note to the homework explaining that to the teacher. Homework must be carefully done, complete, and accomplished on time.
2. How much homework will an ISAAC student receive?
We expect students to adhere to the following guideline:
Students should expect to receive about 1 and 1/2 hours of homework each evening.
Examples:
| Example I | Example II |
| Reading: 30 minutes | Reading: 30 minutes + |
| Writing: 15 minutes | related work for 15 minutes |
| Expeditionary work: 20 minutes | Expeditionary work: 15 minutes |
| Spanish: 15 minutes | Math: 25 minutes |
| Music: 20 minutes | Music: 20 minutes |
3. What will homework look like?
Students can expect to receive homework in all the different subject areas (language arts, math, social studies, science, communication, and the arts). Homework activities will reinforce concepts and allow practice of skills that are taught during the school day.
4. How can parents help with homework?
Parents can help by providing a quiet place for students to do their homework. It is important for parents to support students to be responsible for completing homework on their own. If necessary, parents may check assignment notebooks and review completed homework. Parents are also encouraged to communicate with teachers about any homework issues.
5. What are the consequences for incomplete homework?
Goal setting will be established by students and teachers at the beginning of the year. Parents will receive notification of their child's goals.
