ISAAC NEW STUDENT LOTTERY PROCEDURE

As long as ISAAC is limited to 115 students, the following procedure applies.

The goal is for class numbers to be relatively balanced as follows:

Procedure:

1. Admit all siblings and teacher’s children (no matter how long since older siblings attended).

2. Admit all 7th grade & 8th grade transfers if openings are available up to the number above. If no openings are available, keep applications on file for waiting list.

3. Separate all 6th grade applications into towns. Mix up all applications for that town. Select number of students per number of openings per town, as listed below.

4. Put remaining, unselected names in 2 categories: urban & suburban waiting lists.

5. Select remaining names one at a time doing all “urban” applicants at one time and all “suburban” applicants separately. Give each one a number for each of the waiting lists.

6. Any child listed on the “wait list” of a suburban town, can be considered after all slots from suburban towns which can be filled, are filled. In other words, if five students apply from East Lyme (and only three can be accepted based on the slots above), the two whose names are not selected in the lottery for East Lyme slots will be put in a pool of all suburban applications who were not selected. If a town does not have enough applicants to fill its slots (e.g. no applicants from Waterford), all students from the “suburban wait list” will be considered to fill that/those slot(s).

7. If the urban students at ISAAC (overall) exceed the number of suburban students, precedence for acceptance from the waiting list will be first suburban, second urban until all openings are filled and a balance of students exists.

*Note: It is more important to fill enrollment quotas than where any student lives. A goal is a balance of urban to suburban students.
