SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY

General

It is the policy of the ISAAC Board of Directors to maintain a learning and working environment for students and employees that is free from sexual harassment. This policy forbids any form of sexual harassment in the work place, whether by supervisory or non-supervisory personnel, by individuals under contract, volunteers or students subject to the control of the Board.

Students

It shall be a violation of this policy for any staff member or any individual subject to the control of the ISAAC Board of Directors to harass a student through conduct or communications of a sexual nature as defined below.

When it occurs, it threatens a person's personal dignity and sense of safety. her are some exmples adapted from a report by the University of Connecticut:

Sexual harassment is defined as unwanted or unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature, whether verbal or physical, including but not limited to, insulting or degrading sexual remarks or conduct.

Substantiated charges of sexual harassment by a student will result in disciplinary action, which may include suspension or expulsion. Additional actions may also include:

ISAAC's procedure will be used by the Director to record and investigate complaints. It is the expressed policy of the Board to encourage victims of sexual harassment to report such claims.

Complaints will be investigated promptly and corrective action will be taken if allegations are verified. The right to confidentiality of both the complainant and the accused will be respected consistent with the school's legal obligations to investigate allegations of misconduct and to take corrective action when misconduct has occurred. Investigations of such matters shall include conferring with the parties involved and any named witnesses. No reprisals or retaliations will be allowed to occur as a result of the good faith reporting of charges of sexual harassment.

It is the expressed policy of the Board to encourage victimes of sexual harassment to report such claims. If you have a complaint about sexually harassing behavior, please see the Director, the Head Teacher, the school Social Worker, or the school nurse.

All complaints shall be address in writing, using the form provided in the school office, to the Director and he/she shall be responsible for investigating all complaints.
