The Interdistrict School for
Arts And Communication (ISAAC) is a public state charter school that
received its charter from the Connecticut State Board of Education
in 1997. ISAAC was founded by parents to reduce racial and economic
isolation. ISAAC opened its doors that fall to 45 new sixth grade
students from 12
districts in southeastern Connecticut, in rented space at the Shiloh
Family Life Center. The next two years, a new sixth grade was
added, making it a full middle school with 115 students in grades 6-8
in he 1999-2000 school year.
Shortly before the 2001-2002
school year, the State Board renewed ISAAC's charter after 4 years
of proven success. During the 2004-2005 school year, ISAAC moved to its
own home at 190 Governor Winthrop Boulevard in New London and grew to
180 middle school students. At the
end of the 2005-2006 school year,
ISAAC graduated its 7th class of eighth grade students who have gone on
to high schools throughout the state and beyond.
