A Day for Integrated
Arts Education ... and Remembrance
ISAAC students enjoyed a full
day of art, writing, exploration, and community service
activities at the Lyman Allyn Museum, Deshon Allyn House, and
Connecticut College Arboretum on the 23rd and 24th of April.
The day began with a gallery tour of Elizabeth Enders' exhibit,
Landscape - Language - Line. Students participated in either of two
hands-on workshops in Chinese art modeled after the technique of
Charles Chu, Miss Ruth's recently deceased father-in-law, master artist
and
professor emeritus of Chinese Literature at Connecticut College.
Other activities of the day included a plein air poetry writing
experience and nature hike & scavenger hunt at the Connecticut
College Arboretum, and spring cleaning of the Lyman Allyn & Deshon
Allyn ground. The day culminated in dedicating two weaping cherry
trees, planted by students, to ISAAC's former Executive Director and
co-counder, Ruth A. Cole-Chu. Miss Ruth was passionate in her
dedication to ISAAC. It was a magical day ... the kind of unique
educational experience she dedicated her life to creating.
