April 22, 2009 IPAT Meeting Minutes

Attendees:, Pam Okerblom, Diane Barcelo, Millie Rivera, Chris Blackshaw, Ellen Calkins, Janna Salmon, Diana McMasters

I. Directors Report: And new Items

Janna Salmon reported on the following activities at ISAAC
â—Š    8th grade Mandatory meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 30th at 5:30.  A flyer was handed out today to the 8th grade students but is being revised and handed out tomorrow with some changes that make it less confusing and highlight that there is a lot happening in the next 2 months and that parents need to be involved to fundraise for the events.
â—Š    Teacher appreciation week is the week of May 4th- May 8th.  On Tuesday May 5th Janna and Lloyd are bringing in soup and Ellen Calkins has volunteered to organize parents to bring:  Juice or Soda, Salad, Fruit, Desert and Crackers and Cheese.
â—Š    Two wonderful All day field trips are scheduled for Thursday 4-23-09 and Friday 4-24-09. It is a combination of service work, gardening, scavenger hunts, Nature sculpture, visiting Lyman Allen Museum and planting and dedication of 2 trees for Ruth Cole-Chu
â—Š    Hispanic dinner re-scheduled for May 20th
â—Š    3 Questionnaires  for parents, students and staff has been generated to get some information and data to improve the school and use in the reports to the state.
â—Š    Book fair is scheduled for first week of June.  IS IPAT interested in taking this back as one of our Fundraisers?  If so, IPAT will be looking for people to run the fair.  ISAAC is owed $500 from last book fair.
â—Š    Another contingent of staff and parents will be visiting the Armistead School on the 8th of May.

II. Old Items:

â—Š    8th Grade Activities Chris Blackshaw will be the coordinator for the Hispanic Dinner.  She will work with Lisa Johns to come up with a list of needs and jobs or the 8th Grade meeting on Thursday April 30th at 5:30.  At that meeting people will sign up to bring need items.  Anyone who does not attend will be called and will be given the opportunity to sign up to help or be assigned.
â—Š    Parenting workshop Parenting workshop that was canceled last month was rescheduled for Wednesday May 6th at 6:30 pm.  ‘How to Stop Nagging and get Kids to Cooperate’“Homework, chores, you name it…Susan has a system that will work for you!”“You will discover how you can turn even the most frustrating parenting challenges around and flow freely toward having cooperative, well behaved successful kids.”Pam will contact presenter and send out a flyer via E-mail asap.

C. Action Items:

Chris Blackshaw to be the coordinator for the Hispanic Dinner fundraiser and will attend the 8th Grade parent meeting to give parents roles and responsibilities in order to make the dinner successful.

Chris Blackshaw, Diane Barcelo and Lisa Johns will schedule a short meeting before the 8th Grade Parent meeting to ensure that they have a good plan in place where they can get the parents to just fill in the responsibilities they would like to assist with.
Millie Rivera will bring snack for next months meeting on April 22nd.
Pam Okerblom will send out flyer for rescheduled parenting workshop.
