Dear ISAAC Families,

Welcome to the start of the 2019-2020 school year! It promises to be an exciting time for all. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the Interim Principal. My background spans elementary and middle school throughout New London for over 30-plus years.

As I collaborate with staff to prepare for a smooth opening, I am reassured by their dedication and commitment to your students. We are fortunate to have a caring staff that makes the school feel like an extended family.

There are several new staff members joining us to complete our teaching staff. We are proud to announce that we have added Spanish and Technology to our academies this year. I-EXL (after-school program) will offer a host of enrichment activities for our students.

Opening day for grade six students, as well as new seventh and eighth grade students, will be Tuesday, September 3. This will be a half-day. Wednesday, September 4, we will welcome all returning students.

Please feel free to stop in or contact the office or myself if you have any questions prior to the first day of school. I look forward to meeting each of you.

¡Bienvenidas al comienzo del año escolar 2019-2020! Promete ser un tiempo emocionante para todos. Me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para introducirme como Directora Interina. Mi experiencia abarca escuela elemental e intermedia a través de todo New London por más de 30 años.

A medida que colaboro con el personal para preparar una apertura agradable, su dedicación y compromiso con sus estudiantes me aseguran de que no tengo de qué preocurme. Somos afortunados de tener un personal atento que hace que la escuela se sienta como una familia extendida.

Hay varios nuevos miembros del personal que se unen a nosotros para completar nuestro personal docente. Nos enorgullece anunciar que hemos agregado español y tecnología a nuestras academias este año. I-EXL (programa después de clases) ofrecerá una serie de actividades de enriquecimiento para nuestros estudiantes.

El día de apertura para los estudiantes de sexto grado, así como para los nuevos estudiantes de séptimo y octavo grado, será el martes, 3 de septiembre. Este será medio día. El miércoles, 4 de septiembre, daremos la bienvenida a todos los estudiantes que regresan.

No dude en pasar por aquí o comunicarse con la oficina o conmigo si tiene alguna pregunta antes del primer día de clases. Espero conocerlos a cada uno de ustedes.

At ISAAC, one of our Design Principles as an Expeditionary Learning school is Success and Failure. This means we believe that all students need to be successful if they are to build confidence and capacity to take risks and meet increasingly difficult challenges. But it is also important for students to learn from their failures, to persevere when things are hard, and to learn to turn disabilities into opportunities.

Please look for updated grades and comments on PowerSchool for the middle of the 2nd Trimester. Checking in with grades on PowerSchool is a great way to check on the academic successes and challenges of your child and we encourage you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have. We are also entering into our Winter Benchmark assessments. Students will be taking reading, language usage, and math assessments called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP.) In addition, students will be taking a winter writing assessment. These assessments help us to monitor student progress over the course of the year.

Our students set individual achievement goals for these assessments based on their Fall scores. In Crews, they developed a plan for improving their scores in their Student Success Plans. We are confident that students will show growth and we plan to use this data to inform our instruction and to design interventions to continue to meet all of our students' needs. We encourage all parents to engage in conversations with your children about their successes and their failures. Celebrate with them their accomplishments and support them to learn from their mistakes.
